Keating’s attitude at National Press Club was one of ‘complete contempt’

Story by Sky News Australia • Yesterday 9:35 pm - 17-3-2023

Former prime minister Paul Keating’s attitude at the National Press Club address this week was one of “complete contempt” but throughout the ordeal, ABC’s Laura Tingle was “none too concerned”, says Sky News host Caleb Bond.

Mr Bond said Ms Tingle was too “starry-eyed” to remind the former prime minister of “basic facts” as he criticised the AUKUS deal.

“And Tingle was none-too concerned about Keating's attacks on journalists, including Sky News political reporter Olivia Caisley … he treated a young woman – a fine journalist from this network – with absolute contempt.

“Just imagine for a minute if John Howard had acted in that manner towards a young female ABC journalist. You'd have to buy earplugs to drown out the accusations of sexism and misogyny and whatever else. But when it's Keating and a young woman from Sky News - well, it's a free pass.

“As long as Tingle remains President of the National Press Club, Keating will always have a willing host to platform his invective.”
